If there is one important thing that we possess, it is our health. Yet, no one is out there to protect it except for ourselves. You really can’t expect food manufacturers to put our health before their profits. The amount of sugar they add to almost anything is astounding! It’s no wonder obesity and diabetes rates are skyrocketing!

One way to be healthy – and stay health – is to cut down on your sugar intake yourself. That’s not such a difficult thing to do. All you have to do is read the labels of foods you buy and make sure you buy the low sugar or sugar free option. For example, instead of your sugary cereals, you could instead buy low sugar cereal. These items can be found readily and in large amounts in many supermarkets and grocery stores. However, sometimes these products are not labeled properly; therefore you should pay closer attention to the ingredients and nutritional information to make sure they won’t be harmful to you.

One important point you should pay attention to is the food coloring used. You also need to pay attention to the artificial food flavoring used. For example, low carb cereal may have food coloring in them! MSG has been noted to cause some cancers and other health problems. They are also appetite-inducers, making you eat more than you really need and dehydrating you at the same time. Be careful: natural flavoring on food labels are actually MSG in disguise. Watch out for these and avoid them.

Another great way to cut out sugar and carbs from your diet is to avoid sugary drinks. This includes sodas and other soft drinks. Extra sugars are also added in those so-called teas and flavored waters. That’s why they taste good! But you don’t really need all those extra sugar. They can add calories to your diet, thereby ruining it and your health as well. Those are called empty calories because they provide zero nutritional value. You will find no amino acids, vitamins or even minerals in sugar. They will do nothing for your weight loss programs since, for starters, they make you hungry frequently. Believe me, you don’t want them in your diet.

Healthy foods are a way to a healthy body. It is healthiest when the ingredients have not undergone any processing or are natural. Meats and vegetables are generally not subjected to any processing. Steer clear of sausages and other meats that have been processed. Another advantage of vegetables is the amount of variety they offer. Although fruits have sugar content, they are excellent especially when the skin is also eaten. The skin has fiber which curbs the sugar content of the fruit by absorbing some of it. In this regard, fruit juices are no different to pure sugar water. They are not good for you despite the fact that they taste good.

Breads also have sugar content. Actually, even if they do not contain sugar, breads are still not too advisable. The wheat is highly processed and usually then bleached to make flour. Wheat doesn’t have any nutrients, to begin with. So bread is mostly just empty calories.

There’s no real need to mention desserts. Nowadays, there are a lot of sugar-free desserts for sale. They may prove to be more beneficial than the regular desserts. After all, they don’t have any sugar content at all. This means that you will already be eating fewer calories. But keep in mind that wheat and other grain products are still the main ingredients in these desserts. That means you would still be dealing with empty calories. The calories will be giving you energy. Instead of your body’s energy, the empty calories in the dessert will prevail. As a result, you will be left with more fat.

It is important for your health to regulate your sugar intake. It’s difficult at the beginning, but once you start, you won’t go back! That is one lifestyle change you won’t ever be sorry for.
